R&D

Department of Theory of Mechanisms and Machines (TMM) has long traditions and high prestige in research, especially in developments for the industry, requiring solving of advanced research and engineering problems. The research activity of the Department is distinguished for its high quality and viability, as well as for the large amount of outcomes. Since the establishment of the department, its academic staff has more than:

  • 2700 publications (articles, conference papers, research communications), published in Bulgaria and abroad;
  • 260 scientific presentations at international conferences and congresses;
  • 240 recognized inventions, including 24 patents abroad;
  • 330 contracted research projects;
  • 250 more significant introduced developments.

THE MAIN ARIAS OF RESEARCH AT THE DEPARTMENT ARE:

  • Structure-metrical synthesis and cinematic analysis of mechanisms, machines, specialized robots and automated lines;
  • Dynamical analysis and synthesis of machines, multi-cylinder engines, specialized robots and equipment;
  • Design of mechanisms, modules and devices for automation of technology machines;
  • Vibrations, stability, vibration absorption, vibration protection, modeling and simulation of mechanical systems;
  • Kinetic energy accumulators, dynamics of rotor machines and systems;
  • Microelectromechanical systems;
  • Tribological tests on composites coatings, materials and lubricants in various operating modes;
  • Interdisciplinary research of contact interactions in tribology;
  • Differential equations, asymptotic methods;
  • Modeling of processes in the ecology;
  • Network communications and data protection;
  • Automated control systems, application of artificial intelligence in the industry.

The research work covers both contractual developments with public funding (MoES, OP "Competitiveness", internal competition) and contractual developments with funding from the industry. Many of these developments are in cooperation with research units from BAS, with Bulgarian and foreign companies and educational institutions, as well as with the participation of outstanding students.
